Wife on OPT(F1) and Husband on H1B Visa
    Hello All,

I am on H1-B Visa and my wife is on OPT (F1).
    My question is:
    1. Are we supposed to file jointly or separately?
1.1 If we file jointly which form do we use? (1040NREZ?)
1.2 Do we both get standard deductions and exemption? ($5700*2 + $3650*2)

    2. If we file separately which form should I and my wife use?
    3. Is there is software or some consulting company I can use?
3.1 How much is the average cost.

    Information about us:
    1. Both are Indian origin
    2. I am staying here from 2006-2011
    3. My wife is staying from 2007-2011

    Thanks in Advance.

    1. You can file joint return. Use Form 1040.
    2. If you want to file separate returns, how did both of you file your 2009 tax return?
    3. Yes, you can use any tax software.

If we use this? Then won't we loose the extra exemption that she will get as F1 ($3650). Or we have the provision in 1040 as well?

We got married in early 2009. So this is the first time we have facing this situation.

You get standard deduction for both of you on 1040.
