Yes, you should be very worried. It's a fire hazzard, you should knock the power to the outlet and have it checked by an electrician. Good luck

Get a friend to come over. Plug a small lamp into the outlet the microwave was plugged into. Tell your friend to holler when the light oges out. Go to your fuse box. Start flipping breakers off till you hear your friend holler. Mark that breaker turn the others back on. CALL ELECTRICIAN. If you rent, touch nothing CALL LANDLORD.
Don't fool around with the outlet, you could be killed.

Was the plug hot or was it the outlet that was hot? If it was the plug then it is likely that it is the plug that is defective.

To add to Hk's advice, loose connections generate heat.
Could be loose wires on the receptacle or burnt/corroded contacts on the recepticle/plug connection.
If you replace the receptacle and the cord is still corroded/burnt, it will take out the new receptacle.
Good cleaning of the plug or replacement will help.
