I know what you're going through... trust me, it's torture.
Sleep is one of those things that can be affected due to... practically ANYTHING.
Are you stressed about something, is something on your mind constantly, etc.
Have you recently changed your diet, exercise, routine, jobs, homes, etc?
Are you on any medication?
A lot of people suggest meditation. One thing I found the most effective (learned it first year med school) was imagining that I was hovering over my body... and imagining electric bolts all over my body, as if my body was one giant electric ball. Then I imagined all of the electricity going out of me through my fingertips and my toes.
... nowadays, it doesn't work for me anymore, so I've switched to melatonin pills. You can pick them up at a vitamin store. It works for some, it doesn't work for others.
I get to sleep by mentally cleaning a bachelor friend's house. By the time I've finished straightening his personal library and dusting all the shelves, my mind previews getting supplies together to clean the bathroom, and I fall asleep instantly!
