So I'm 18 & my old best friend is 16, We were friend since I was 7 & sh was 5, Through out the years we were really close always doing everything together mainly just hanign out on weekends (we went to different school, my mom & her aunt worked together, that is how I meet her) we stopped being friend at the end of August beginning or sept. We haven't really talked a lot since then, until she got a job were I work (we started talking a little more but realized how different we were from eachother) but her mom (who I work with) came to me last week & explained to me how she felt her daughter really need me there. I do want to be there for her but we have changed a lot and I don't think I could forgive her for what she did, so I don't know what to do?

We never got into any fights but then, we started fighting a lot. I got a boyfriend who I really liked and she would tell me she was going to bed and yet she was still texting my boyfriend.. she would also lie to me about things she did or she would tell me that's people were talking about me when truth of it being they weren't, I love her to death but its hard because she's the baby of her family just having an older brother.. so she always had everything handed to her. I am one of 4 kids, being the second olderest & having an 8 yr old little brother & 10 yr old little sister. I babysit them a lot ad have been doing it since I was 13 or 14, because my parents always worked.. after not talking for a while she asked if I would meet up with her && I told her I would ( when she knew my sistuation when it came to babysitting) but my little brother got sick and I had to stay home & take care of him( parents were working) she got pissed telling me I was fake & a liar.

Wow. If you guys hadn't been friends for so long, and her mother hadn't asked you to talk with her, I'd tell you to keep the distance. But, since her mom asked you to hang around with her again, maybe you could try one more time and try to talk through some stuff.

It sounds like she wants attention. It all started when you got a boyfriend? She was probably jealous because now your attention was more divided between her and your boyfriend. It can be difficult in any friendship when one person starts dating someone and the other becomes a third wheel, and with her being younger and the baby of the family she might not known how to react and deal with it. And of course you should take a good look at your actions and make sure you didn't start completely ignoring her or anything when he came into the picture, as some girls will do to their friends when a new guy comes around.

The lying about people talking about you when they weren't was also probably a cry for attention. I used to have a friend that would do that. She would try to turn everyone in our little group of friends against one another. And when she wasn't doing that she was making up all sorts of crazy stories for attention.

I wonder if she looks up to you almost like a sister she never had. Maybe if you try talking to her again it might go better if instead of talking to her like just any friend, you talked to her the way you might have a heart to heart with one of your sisters and try to be a role model for her?

I was at work tonight and talking to her mom, she has a boyfriend and I know that when my boyfriend came into the picture I didn't ingore her because he went to visit his dad in another state and was gone for 3 weeks, when he finally came home we had already started school back up. I hung out with my friend on saturdays, because fridays she spent with her boyfriend and id be with mine, but then tonight she texted me asking for my opionan and then got all mad when it wasn't the same as hers. & again went back to the name calling saying I was a ***** and I always side with the other person when stated I wasn't picking sides; since I wasn't even involved. But we continued to hang out on weekend sometimes shed even stay over friday-sunday but then she started lying & I just didn't want to deal with it. So I'm not really sure what the right decision is.

It's ultimately up to you to decide what the right thing for you to do is. Personally, I wouldn't put up with it. I just don't have the patience for that kind of drama and would rather spend time with drama free friends that don't lie or start fights over nothing. But it is hard to let go of a friendship that you've been in for so long.
