I have been trying to find the name of this movie for a long time. I remember seeing it on TV about 10 years ago.

I believe the main character was Anthony Hopkins who was a gruff mountain man who lived with a Native American woman who called him by a funny name. As the movie progresses, he is confronted by the government which is trying to push him off his land. He shoots at them but falls into a stream and drowns. The next day his wife finds him, drags him out of the stream and buries him.

Can anybody help me with the name if this movie?
