Host family for foreign student with no 1099
We receive compensation as a host family for two foreign students. The school that issues the check to us says that their CPA has advised them that issuing a 1099 is not necessary and they will not be sending us one. Do we have to report this income anyway? If so, where?

Host families are expected to provide 24/7 care in addition to room and meals--like doctors visits, assistance with homework, use of the computer/Internet, spiritual guidance, transportation to/from school and after-school events, church, and social functions. So there are a lot of expenses incurred. How are these reported--especially transportation?

    Thanks.

If you report the income, it would be on Line #21 of Form 1040.

However, the "income" is in fact reimbursement for expenses incurred from hosting the foreign student. Under that concept, the income is NOT taxable income, nor are the expenses you incurred tax deductible.
