What is proper sheet rock behind washer/dryer?
Installing new washer/dryer in next room on "reverse" wall. Original unpainted sheet rock - 60 yrs. Old cement board in damp, unfinished basement - is crumbling, 'soft', some mold. New room much dryer and wall w/b painted semigloss. Should my sheetrock be Greenboard, Wonderboard, Permabase (cement base) or something else? Thanks, V

Drywall is normally fine but if you have any potential of repeated dampness go with green board. You other 3 thoughts are for bejind tile, don't bother.

I'd go with a mold resistant board (same as "paperless drywall") and I would install it so it stays at least a 1/2" to 1" off the basement floor to increase the chances that moisture can't contact the board.

Thanks. Installing green board to face towards washer/dryer in new room - leaving backside exposed
To damp basement. Any protection needed to avoid "rear decay" in future?

Sorry GinnG I thought we were done so I missed your question today. Good question, yes there is a vapor barrier that needs to be installed on the studs. Cover the entire wall top to bottom with 6 mil plastic vapor barrier and then mount your drywall green side out to the room. Massplumber made a great suggestion in using paperless drywall, better than greenboard.
