I own 3 geman shepherd male dogs two of them have absess's that have opened on their back towards their hind legs, jess who is 8 has had lumps for ages, when I took him to the vet he said if it doesn't bother him leave it alone, which it doesn't bother either of them, it doesn't look very nice and it smells. Jess also has a dry nose. Rebel who is 4 has only one absees which has burst. The other german shepherd doesn't have any, Can you help

Take them to the vet. Abscesses are filled with loads of bacteria and your dogs will need to go on antibiotics,

You can also ask them about using an Epsom salt bath to keep them clean and disinfected, that would also help with the smell. I would also go back to the vet and ask for a second opinion. Oozing abscess that smell, are never a good sign.
