We have a bore that has worked fine for about 8 years, now we notice that the water is not flowing into the tank with any great force, more little spurts at a time than constant flow. It's not filling to the correct level. We are at the end of a long dry summer and the water comes from an underground source. Is it possible that there is not enough water running through to flow into the tank (like a dam level drops) or is it more likely a pump problem.

When you refer to water "flowing into the tank", do you mean it's being pumped in? If so, then it would seem logical that your well is not supplying enough water. Is your pump above ground?

Yes, it's pumped from a submersible pump, the bore is about 80 feet underground. The pump is underground.

Stew, I am going to guess that your pump does not have enough water to pump properly. It might be overheating and shutting itself off, which would explain why it shuts off before the float valve would cut it off. Might be possible to move the pump a little farther down into the well.

Where are you? Must be south of the equator for you to be at the end of summer.

Yes I live in Perth, Western Australia. Will have to get someone out to confirm overheating suggestion. Thanks for your help thus far.

Just to be clear, it would overheat when it starts running dry. Most submersible pumps have a thermal switch that shuts the pump off when it gets too hot.
