I have a 1953 house and wanted to replace the gasket to the sink and the p trap, but unable to find the correct size so I went to Plumbing supply place. He did not have much, but insisted I had to replace everything including the wall pipe. He assembled ebverything & same guy who told me to burn the house down over and over again.

Weird guy. He said there is a bolt in the pipe in the wall, but I don't see one. Does it twist out? What kind of wrench do I use? Does it turn left to right to loosen. Can I damage other pipes trying to get it out. I prefer to leave it in as it is OK, but the p trap has a hole in it and needs replacement.

Is the old pipe big enough to put a smaller new one through it?

If not try connecting the mismatched sizes together with a flexable rubber hose and some jubalee clips.

Then, do I take that rubber hose and put it on the other pipe and use the clamp there too?

Also, how would I put a smaller pipe in. Would you put a 1 1/4 pipe through the wall pipe? Would it have to be the same size? Both sound like very good ideas.

Put 1 1/4 inch pipe through larger pipe

Buy new fittings to take 1 1/4 inch pipe from plug hole right through to outside. Ask at b&q and they will sort you out. Most sinks are meant to be 11/4 inch so double chech you measure ments especily thr thread on the base of the sink
