I have to write a paper on the original intent of the second amendment. Once I get going on a paper, I'm usually pretty good. But I have no idea where to start. What time should I start looking into the history of the firearms issue? Are there any specific events I should be sure to include? Are there any history buffs or teachers on here that can give me tips on where I should start? Please and thank you!

The big controversy is what was meant by a "militia" -- a well-trained group of armed men (e.g. National Guard) or individuals who own weapons who may or may not come together in defense of their country.
