    Name change
Hello, I have a 7 year old daughter, who has my last name, and my last name is on the birth certificate as well, now my question is, if the father of my child has not been in her life ever since she was born, and I've also went to court to get full custody and won because he never attempted to show up, can I change her last name to the man I am about to marry?
    Thank you,

He would have to adopt her. I have the same issue. You would have to go to court and have her adopted for her last name to change.

This is not correct. It is possible to change the child's name WITHOUT adoption IF the birth father consents.

    The procedure varies by State.

Quite true. However it really doesn't make any sense to change the last name to that of the fiancé until he and the mother actually tie the knot.
