In 98% of the cases, you must file Schedule C and (probably) Schedule SE to report the income on a Form 1099-MISC. This means you must, for 2006, file Form 1040.

What exactly did you do to get this 1099-MISC, and how much money are we talking about?

You need to get professional tax help. A tax return with a Schedule S and SE and probably Form 4562 is a bit much for a layman.
