    Hi Lorne...

The general thickness of the bottom of a toilet tank is about a 1/2" thick. Why do you ask?

I put a dual flush valve into my Sterling toilet and had a leak between the tank and bowl only when I flushed. When I checked my installation carefully I noticed the shank of the dual flush was shorter than most. I seemed like the tank thickness may have something to do with the leaking although I think the short threads are likely the main problem. I wondered if all toilets had 1/2" thickness or perhaps less.

    HI Lorne...

Short threads shouldn't even be an issue here as long as the nut tightened down properly.

Be sure that the spud washer (washer between tank and bowl) is up around the flush valve nut and tight to the tank... see image.

    Good luck!
