Can icing over cause damage to the outdoor coil fins in an old unit?
I live where there is no snow and the unit has easy drainage. Temps get into the 30's.

If it's a heat pump its made to have ice on the coil in the winter time it should defrost its self. The damage to the coil comes from when some one tries to remove the ice the wrong way.
