I had a child support case in Arizona. Arizona sent the case to Maryland where I moved to for enforcement. Maryland then had me to come to court and entered a support order. The Custodial parent and I made and agreement on the arrearages, we took it to court in Arizona where the cases where closed and arrearages zero'd out.

11 years later Maryland was updating its records and computer generated a income withdrawal from my employer. Sent Maryland documentation from Arizona and from the Arizona website. Clerk in Maryland refuses to close the case and says custodial parent has a right to the arrearages.

Once it is closed in the original state of the order, isn't that the end of it?

In a word - no. In some States the Court Order ends on the date it is ordered ended. Arrearages up until that point never "go away."

Once a collection unit gets involved it's out of your hands.

Your "disagree" rating to Judy was inappropriate because there was nothing factually wrong with her answer. Apparently, the answer you want to hear is "yes." Sorry, you won't get that here.

Second, I'm slightly confused. You stated that the case was transferred to Maryland, which would mean the Arizona case was closed. Yet you tried to clear out the arrearages in Arizona... even though the case was closed? No wonder it didn't work.

Even if you and the CP agreed to zero out the arrearages, if s/he was on state assistance, they're NOT going to let you slide on that. You owe the money and even if the CP says they don't want it, the state is going to collect it - that's how it works.

Were you actually present for any court hearings where a judge would have authorized zeroing out the arrearages? Or did you simply submit your paperwork to court and go your separate ways, assuming everything was good and fine?
