The drain in my bathtub suddenly stopped working a few days ago for no reason that I can find! I have removed the plunger mechanism (water stopper), plunged the drain with the overflow covered (nearly until exhaustion), ran a snake through it from the overflow, ran a snake through it from the main pipe beyond the overflow (which required me to remove ceiling tiles to get to) and still nothing! Water still stands in the tub and will not move at all! I have not experienced any issues with the toilet, the bathroom sink or any other drain in the house. I am stumped and open to any suggestions! Oh, BTW, I have not used any caustics as I have used a 25' snake instead! Thanks!

Do you have a septic system? That could be clogged.

Where is the drain pipe in relation to the other fixtures? If the toilet and sink are down stream and working, the plug is still in the bath drain. Make sure the pipe between the drain hole and the overflow pipe is open.

Since you have remove part of the ceiling below, can you show a picture? Could you have snaked the vent pipe instead of the drain?

How did you do that? Did you cut the pipe beyond the trap? If so, was there water in the pipe?

I have been having this problem for 7 years. After every shower I take have to bring up buckets and bail the tub. It feels disgusting showering with 1 inch of dirty water sitting under your feet. All I have to say is get it fixed by a perfesional before you have a major problem

Hi ark. As you well know, there IS a clog somewere. Its just a matter of finding it. You say you snaked the drain, from overflow, and from the pipe beyond the overflow. Are you saying you snaked the trap? As Harold mentioned, the snake may have gone up the vent instead of down the drain. Curious to see what you find. Please let us know.
