The level of ignorance is staggering

Even with many weather maps available over the last month they couldn't get it right. This is equivalent of saying New York is on the island of Cuba
CNN coverage of Cyclone Yasi places Queensland in Tasmania | News.com.au
I wonder is this the level of accuracy of US news services?

Over decades of observation... I've come to believe they use a Ougi board to predict the weather.

Every place I've lived has apparently been right in the middle of a transition area they claim is hard to predict (their actual excuses)... I wonder if there actually exists an area that ISN'T a transition area where they get it right at least half the time.

This post has nothing to do with the weather, it's about basic geography and reading the captions on a map, both abilities apparently lacking at CNN or perhaps it is they are generally ignorant of any place outside the continential US

As far as weather forecasting is concerned they seem to get major events fairly right but local weather is often too generalised. Where I come from we get statements like chance of thunder storms, chance of rain and wind direction is anybody's guess

You mentioned CNN... being they're nearly in last place if not in last place for news channels in the USA... goes to show what most people here in the USA think of their "News". They hire purely based on ones political ideology... they couldn't care less about if they are able to identify North America and Europe on a Globe. Or Australia for that matter. Goes to show what thought they put into their news stories too.

Their heyday was 20 years ago... its been a long slow fall to the bottom since then.

Indeed Tut and we almost succeeded in sinking Victoria as well. Ah Well we will just have to wait for the next cyclone, no matter, we shall just be content with Tasmania, Bob Browne has demonstrated they have been adrift for a long time

Hey Tut what odds on cutting Kennelly adrift in March, would that be 100 to one on?

Yes, I am a swinging voter. I voted Labor the last two times, but I will be voting Liberal this time. Labor have been in power way too long. Is it something like 12 years? Seems like long hard labor to me.

For our American friends ( who might be interested) it is difficult to put into perspective. I would say we don't have anything that can be compared to American conservatism. Our 'conservative party' is really Liberal which is probably to the left of their conservatism.

Comparisons are always difficult, but I would say that if Obama was in Australia he would be seen as nothing more than a 'run of the mill' Labor politician. This is of course debatable, but it is interesting to try and compare the two political systems.

Well Tut you know what Lincoln said, you can fool all of the peopele some of the time, you can even fool some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. We have reached that point in the affairs of men when Labor is so far on the nose, the rats are leaving the sinking ship.

What can you expect from a network that covered Obama in all 57 states.
