Dual status tax file from F1 to H1 with medicare and social security
    Hi,

I was in both F1 and H1 status this year (2010). I filed my taxes as a F1 student in OPT last year (2009). This year I changed my status to H1 from Oct1-2010. So basically I was working in OPT from Jan1-2010 to Sept30-2010 and from Oct1-2010 to Dec30 as H1. I have got a single W2 form from my employer. Can you please guide me the processing of filing the tax return for this year.
Also one other issue is that my employer has some tax cuts on social security and medicare while I was on OPT which I am sure I am not supposed to pay. Later on when inquired I was told that it was a mistake from the company side and that I will get it back when I file my tax returns. Any lights on that.

    Thanks,
    Rohit

For 2010 you will file nonresident tax return.
Request for refund of social security taxes is filed separately after your return has been processed. Read Your U.S. Tax Return: Social Security and Medicare (FICA) Taxes for Non-resident Exempt Individual
