Yes, it is an irregular heartbeat, and while the name sounds as though it might be associated with an "ectopic" pregnancy, that is not the case. Adults will have ectopic heartbeats, sometimes felt as skipped beats. It usually is not a problem and often resolves itself at some point in the pregnancy. However, your midwife or doctor may just monitor it as your pregnancy progresses.
I would talk to your midwife about it some more so that she can go over it with you to help ease your mind. If they were concerned about what they detected, no doubt you would have been told more about it.
