    Ruud heat pump troubleshooting
I have a 2 ton Achiever and the fan has stopped running on it. It feels warm to hot on the top cover at the motor mount. I ohmed the 3 motor wires to be good. I measured the capacitance on the 35/5uF cap and the fan side is off by 4% while the sticker showes +- 6% tolerance. I also replaced the contacter. Should I replace the motor? The history was the blades were frozen up by ice for a few days until I discovered it and was able to free it. Since then it has been spinning with a slight hissing like something's not straight no more for a couple hours that day. I tested the defrost control board at the test pins and it goes in and out of defrost OK. At 1 time I was able to push the blades with something so it will work for a couple minutes, then stops. The unit hums while the fan is not spinning so I'm forced to use emergency heat which is so expensive. Help please.. .

Sounds like you need a new fan. If you could push it to start, it is usually a capacitor or the start windings that are going. Since it won't stay going, it would seem that your run windings have been damaged also. So if the capacitor is good I would get a new fan.

Most likely the motor will need to be replaced, have you verified the voltage to the fan? Also remember that the new motor will need a new capacitor; I recommend a 440v, not a 370v.
