Transmisson has a reverse problem. Won't go in at all & when driving you have to drive in 2nd drive.when it shuts off in order to start pumping the gas repeaditly while cranking over engine. What could it be?

Did this just recently start and gradually get worse? Could be the fuel filter. Most cars have an inline fuel filter and gas picks up particulates which make it into your gas tank, so if you allow your gas level to get low too often they can get clogged up. This is not always the case, but usually when it's the fuel pump, it won't start at all. About the transmission, could be as simple as low tranny fluid. This can be very damaging to drive while low on fluid if that's the problem. Good Luck!
