How do I remove 15 year old unpaid tax liens from credit report public records?
I have unpaid state tax liens that show up on my credit report under public records that are over 15 years old. On one report, Equifax, it shows one from 1991 and on Transunion it shows one from 1993 and one from 1990. Experians report doesn't show any public records. I was never served or contacted and to the best of my recollection I paid these taxes at the time they were due. I have no records from that far back to prove this. Transunion says "Unpaid tax liens may generally be reported as public records for an indefinite period of time depending on your state of residence." Experian says unpaid tax liens remain for 15 years. Is this their individual policy or is it a written law from the Fair Credit Report Act? Any suggestions on how to take these off my record?
