I have a friend that is 33 weeks pregnant, she quite smoking marijuana when she was 30 weeks pregnant when she found out they drug test babies... she is due march 27th and is scared of losing her baby boy. Do they drug test at the hospital in Washington? She only smoked to make her feel better with anxiety and not being able to sleep... do they drug test and if they do would they take her baby from her for a little thc in her system?

Drug testing is not automatic in Washington State. Drug testing IS done if a medical professional requests it for any one of several reasons - jittery newborn, small size at birth, any other unusual circumstances, including the mother's history.

Yes, if they drug test and the baby is positive she will lose custody following a hearing.

Aside from the law, studies of THC and pregnancy are still very inconclusive.
Maybe someday it WILL be shown to not harm the fetus, but that day isn't here yet.
Look how long it took to study the effects of tobacco and alcohol.

She has time to stop, and not worry. Worrying is no help for sleep or the baby.

I don't think that it does harm them while they are in the belly. But for some reason most people do think that. She has already quite she was just scared she didn't want to lose her little one. She is an amazing mother I would hate to see her lose her

From experience, with my fiancée, IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, KB's,Dank,Kind, etc. Is not a crime to have In your system at the time of birth. We were stressing also, as our child (Born August 28th, 2010-Seattle) came up positive for the greens. We both worked at a Med. Marijuana Dispensary In Cali. Anyway, we moved to Washington just days before his birth, and we were fine. I asked the DR.(s) the law, and they all responded the same. "If the mother is on a felony leave (from prison/jail), or the baby has Street/Illicit drugs In their system,(Crank,Ice,Crack,Yoka Cola,X) they take it... Just THC your fine...

It is a danger to the child and does not have to be a CRIME, it merely has to be in the blood of the child. Social services can get involved for the welfare of the child, even if there is no direct crime to arrest the parents.

My larger worry is that they go back to drug use around the baby to "stay calm" when they get back home

When you posted this question you asked for advice, and anyone that's a member of this site can offer that advice. You can choose to take it, or to ignore it, but you cannot dictate who posts or what they post, unless the post is against site rules, which Chucks post is not.

Your "friend" (and it's never the person who posts the question) is drugging while pregnant. Call it anything else but that's what it is.

And you (on behalf of your "friend") don't want to hear any advice?
