My bathtub spigot is leaking profusely when I try to divert the flow to the shower. I bought a standard replacement kit, but it doesn't seem to fit my hardware. Attached is a picture of the nipple that comes out of the wall, and then a 2nd picture that shows the plastic piece that interfaces between the nipple and the spigot. Can someone help me find a solution to replace the spigot?

I believe that is a DELTA tub spout adapter.

If you have a PULL-UP diverter on the spout then here is what one of our members wrote about this spout...

The Adapter was soldered into the 1/2" copper pipe.

You have 2 options:

1. Buy Delta RP5834 Spout ($17 online, ask Lowe's to price-match!).
Transfer the O-ring from the new kit to the existing brass adapter and install the new spout. There is no need to remove the brass adapter, which lasts some 100 years!

2. A cheaper alternative is to fix the leaking pull-up device:
- Remove the Tub Spout (Counter-clockwise)
- Using a flat scredriver and gently spread 2 prongs of the while plastic pull-up device, then seprate it from the pull-up knob.
- Inside the white plastic pull-up device is a "cup O-ring", which is NOT sold separately by Delta.
- Place an appropriate small O-ring UNDERNEATH the "cup O-ring" to lift it up a bit so the seal is tight.
The BEST fit is DANCO #35 O-ring package (O.D. 11/32; I.D. 9/32; Thickness 1/16"). Sold at Lowe's for $1.90 for package of 10. This works very well for me!
Cost was $0.20!

If you have a PULL DOWN diverter on the spout then a third option would be to take your picture over to a local plumbing supply store... they should have a replacement spout in stock... ;) You can simply swap the oring and then install the new spout if you want.. should work.
