My husband and I have filed 'joint' returns for 17 yrs. I was approved for Social Security Disability effective April, 2010. My husband has only been on Unemployment this past year. We have 2 minor children also for the return as well. How do I do all this? Do I do mine separate and have my hubby with the 2 kids on the other return?? Wow, nervewrecking! Please help. I don't want to get in trouble with the IRS but I don't want to have them take even more money out from my SSI.
