I can say with 90% certainty it is a puppy thing and he will grow out of it.

My own pup went through a stage that last a few months where he would pick up his poo after doing it and start playing with it. All I did was quickly remove the poop and give him a 'ah-ah-NO!'.

There is no definitive reason as to 'why' but I can tell you that it is a very common problem and usually fixes itself over time.

Poop eating in a young puppy is very normal. Actually ( I just learned this ) poop eating in dogs is normal period. It's a behavior that we humans don't like.

To make her stop eating the poo, pick it up ASAP! You can also get a powder called FORBID that you sprinkle on the food. The powder makes the poo taste icky.

You can also try feeding meat tenderizer.. It has to be a specific brand, and that's called ADOLPHS. Something in the mixture makes the poo taste icky as well.

    Good luck!

Got advice so far but the best is to pick up the poop before the pup has a chance. I agree that most dogs will have displayed this behavior and most will grow out of it in time with proper training. I know Forbid is fine but uncertain about Adolphs meat tenderizer. Its made from Papaya and that is actually good for dogs but I don't know how they will taste it.
