To get ITIN number for my spouse in CA I went to local IRS office in my town and submitted them the 1040 along with her W-7 and took her passport/visa original and photo copy.
They looked at the photocopy and the original. It was not separately notarized. Theya ccepted it and said I will receievd the ITIN in 6-8 weeks.
Is this sufficient or would it have any problems if it is not notarized. My impression was that if I go to local IRS office to submit in person as long as IRS person checks it himself that is as good as notarization?
I was not asked my the IRS official for a notarized copy. He was intersted in looking at opriginal to verify the photocopy.
