Give him something with your boyfreinds scent on it and if your boyfreind calls you get him to talk to the dog to on speaker if possible and explain why it may help
He is deperessed and missing his owner, more then likely in a bit of a state due to the drastic change in his life. I would give him some extra attention, offer food, maybe a few small treats. Make sure he is still drinking plenty. A healthy dog will not starve themselves, so just offer the food to him as you normally would.
It may take a few days for him to become accustomed to his new surroundings, just give him time. I would even be prepared for a few accidents and maybe even some diarrhea. Try not to get too upset, he just needs time to adjust to his new surroundings. If this lasts longer then a few days, I would take him to the vet to make sure there is nothing health wise going on.
