    Non acholic Cirrhosis
My husband does not drink but has been diagnosed with scarring of the liver. He is very bloated and his ankles have been swelling badly for over 5 months now. He has seen a specialist with nothing being done expect an appt with a dietician and a follow up with the doctor. That was a month ago and he doesn't go back to the doctor for 2 more months. He is miserable. His nose bleeds daily. I need some guidance on what to do. I want to know what is going on. He is a diebetic.

If he is retaining water around the middle and is a diabetic, there is a lot more going on with his liver then just scarring. I can understand why you are upset, but you have to take the lead here and be assertive with the doctors.

It is possible with a damaged liver to have the abdominal cavity drained, as this is where the water is being retained.

I would suggest a call to your own doctor and request an appt. with a specialist, not necessarily a dietician, although that would help too, but not to solve the water retention from the damaged liver.

Just to clarify, he has been to a specialist and he set my husband up with a dietician in February. Next time he sees the dietician is the end of March. I am frustrated because I see how miserable he is. Having a hard time breathing. He has been having nose bleeds for a long time but he has always passed it on to a scab in his nose. The bleeding is more then it was and I am getting worried. I called the specialist office and asked for them to call me if they had a cancellation that he could come in sooner and they called me back telling me the doctor said he is fine with his late March appt. I am so worried I am losing my husband.
