Hey all,

So this morning I leave the house and all is fine. This afternoon I come back and notice a mild sewer gas smell. I leave again.

This evening the smell is very strong. So I get out my tools and go looking for the source. Here is how far I've gotten.

The smell comes from our main bathroom, NOT from any drains, but from underneath the bathtub. This bathtub is built into a raised floor in the bathroom, covered in tile. The only way under the tub is through a heater built in to one side, which I removed. However, without tearing the thing apart, I can't get further into it to find the source of the leak.

I did notice while I was working on it, that when my tenant used his shower downstairs, the sewer smell became noticeably more potent.

I went onto the roof with a cable to see if the exhaust stack was plugged... it didn't seem to be.

I went into the sub-flooring near the tub, it was dry as a bone and smelled fine.

My best guess is I've got a leak in the exhaust stack near the tub, under the raised flooring. I'm hoping I'm wrong, and that someone out in this great ether known as the net has an answer for me that doesn't involve tearing up my bathroom.
