    The formula for copper(II) permanganate is . That means that for every molecule there are eight oxygen atoms. So there must be eight times as many moles of oxygen atoms as copper permanganate molecules.

    I'm not sure what you are trying to do... maybe you're looking for \text?

    Yeah, that it. \textup is a legal Latex command (for upright text, as opposed to italics), but I guess it doesn't work here. Pretty much the same thing as \text. Thanks.
