I don't want to sound harsh. If this were happening to me, I would feel like the guy was slowly trying to let me down the easy way (for him). Text and email are less personal than speaking one on one - he can avoid talking about anything he wants when there's no one to answer to.

That may not be the case. It depends on the personality. I am pretty shy and when I met my girlfriend, I felt more comfortable texting and emailing as well. It wasn't because I didn't want to talk to her, I just have always found talking on the phone uncomfortable. On the other hand, I never really found it uncomfortable speaking in person.

Give him the benefit of the doubt at least. Maybe ask him?
