I couldn't open my thumb drive after successfully backing up my business on QuickBooks, so I bought a new one only to have the same results. What could be wrong and is there a fix?

I couldn't open my thumb drive after successfully backing up my business on QuickBooks, so I bought a new one only to have the same results. What could be wrong and is there a fix?
Does the machine recognize the thumbdrive at all ? Have you tried it in another machine and did it work in one of those? Also did you format the drive before use?
