It was running decent. Tried starting it today. Ran crappy for about 30 seconds, backfired and now won't start. Any ideas

Souds like it sheared the fly wheel key.Luck

Key is fine. Still won't run. Pops through the carb. Could it be a bent valve? Is there any way to check without pulling the engine apart?

OHV ? Try opening the valve cover and see if either is stuck or bent.

Start from the beginning , check and she if you have fire to the spark plug first before you start tearing it apart,
Look at the spark plug see what it looks like ,could be that simple
