This is a legal question. Who owns the furniture/mattress?
I would say the landlord is checking for bedbugs. Did you ask him?
Why is this a problem? I own property and my leases allow me to check the entire premises - no holds barred. I've never felt compelled to check a mattress but I suppose if I had a "bug" problem I would. I find nothing to indicate that this is against any law. You can always say no and see what the landlord does - which very possibly might be to evict you.
Well Im a Property Manager I just thought it isn't right for us to be touching personal property I know I can check evrything but I have never gottten into drawers or touched peoples personal property. Bedding is pretty personal stuff to be touching.
Agreed - but it's not against the law to "touch" the mattress IF you have a reason to do so. (I can see where, out of idle curiosity, people would go through dresser drawers. Babysitters do that for no apparent reason. I don't know why anybody would simply want to check a mattress.)
