Sit it out or get out?
My landlord just declared bankruptcy. City utilities were included in rent and under the landlords name. My contract was up at the same time that the building was actually out of the landlords name. He has no idea what is going to happen with the building. What do I do in this situation? Sit it out or get out?

What do you mean the building is out of the LL's name? Did someone foreclose?

Someone is going to end up owning it. In the mean time, you are still obligated to continue making the rental payments, probably to the LL.

You might want to read the bankruptcy filings (you can access them online through PACER), and attend the Section 341 meeting to get a better idea of what's going to happen.

The city utilities were under the LL name. He told me that the guy who he was talking to on the bankruptcy would be mailing me. He told me I can't make a rent payment because they don't know who to make it to. Thank you I will take a look.

Place your rent payment in a savings account until you know who or if you will need to pay rent.

    Otherwise I'd sit it out.

It could be that the LL's bankruptcy lawyer, if he has one, is not communicating very well with his client. The LL owns the premises, and is under an obligation to receive the rent, until someone gets a bankruptcy court order otherwise.

You might also talk to the trustee.

And as far as the utilities is concerned: touch bases with the city to make sure they don't get turned off. They aren't supposed to do that, but one never knows; and you don't want to suddenly be without power, water, etc.
