    Electricalguru, I have combined these two posts, for GFI and AFCI, since they both are related to UL.

    Even thou the information is good , I think since most people here using this forum are lay-people, frankly, I believe the UL information is beyond the scope of this forum.

    For example, regarding the AFCI, the only AFCI device commercially available is the circuit breaker device, since it is the only one allowed by NEC. I refer you to NEC Section 210.12(b), the "entire branch circuit" must be protected, therefore, only a circuit breaker style will do the job.

    Manufacturer's are in the process of producing other types of devices, that once UL listed, will then be considered into the NEC .

    And for GFI testing, I find it hard enough to get homeowners, or anyone for that matter, to test GFI devices once a month, as outlined in the instruction that are included with every GFI device.

    Be honest, do you test your GFI outlets in your home once a month using the test button I have to admit I don't.
