I am in NYS and want to insulate my garage door with 1.5" rigid insulation board. This is a signal door for a double garage. Will the added weight of the board require a change in the torsion spring (this door has one above not 1 on each rail. I am getting conflicted advice from people so I am going to the experts.

Yes ,the springs will likely need to be adjusted , but it should be easy to do.

Could depend on the door. My old wood and 1/4'' hardboard door weighs a ton and I doubt the foam would make much difference. I would add the foam and try raising the door by hand. If it still works easily and balances at about 2/3 of the way up, leave well enough alone.

A lot of people have gotten hurt working on garage door springs, but I see no problem if you use your head. I agree it is easy. Are they torsion or the longitudinal? Post back if you want some help.

What is the size of the door? If it is a 16' door , there should be 2 torsion bar springs attached to the header,if it is a single 9x7 door 1 spring is enough. Kellyw
