    Health insurance for age 60+
    Hi
My mum lives in Mumbai and was insured with medi claim.she has just undergone a bypass for which the insurance company has paid out.the problem is we would like to increase the insured amount but medi claim has refused.we tried other insurance companies but no one will insure her.
My question is why is bypass considered a pre-existing disease?what is the risk.Surgeons and doctors claim you technically have a new heat so what is the risk in Insuring someone who has a NEW HEART. Why won't mediclaim let us up the insured amnt with a higher premium

Its not the bypass that's the pre-existing condition it's the heart problems she has had in the past she would need to be insured for 1 year with another company before they will cover any heart related procedures or medications. As far as the current company not wanting to up the coverage I'm not sure it just may be their policy as a company you could ask for a detailed explination as to the rejection reason. Now I'm not sure how the pre-existing clause works there sometimes if you are insured and just change companies you don't havethe waiting year.

I am not the least familiar with health insurance in Mumbai. I'm sure various companies have various policies.

Call the company and ask for their opinion/decision IN WRITING.
