Hi I'm a mother of a 6 year old boy,he's father and I separated since he was only 6 months. Old,he left the country to work in malaysia,though we are not married... since he left,the support for the kid was not continuous, last 2009 we both agreed that he can send 2000 a month for the kid, but that's not enough because that's only for he's tuition fee every month. Now I'm asking for an increase because I'm planning to go back to school and by then on, I won't be able to give all of my sons need,but he refuse, I mean 2000 a month for a 6 year old kid? I want to make it legal not only a verbal agreemant between us, so where can I file for a child support?

To answer your question you would file with the local courts for child support. There are also state agencies that will help with that. What state are you in and we can post more pertinent information for you.

Support will depend on the fathers income, for many in the US, they are lucky to get 50 to 100 dollars a month, and the support is not suppose to pay the mothers living expense while she goes to school, she has to find and work and fund her own living.

If the father is making 10,000 or so a month then 2000 is not out of line, if he is making 20,000 a month, he should be paying more.

What often happens, is the life style of the parent and child has to change if the father leaves the picture, they often have to move to more modest housing, may have to stop private schools and other things.

Also even with a US court order ( assuming you live in the US) it most likely could not or would not be enforced in another nation anyway.

You are kidding right? There are families living on less than $2K a month. Paying $2K a month for a 6 yr old's tuition is not likely to endear you to the court.

Frankly, if he has agreed to pay $2K a month, I would not go to court since its possible the court will order a lesser amount. Before you go to court, I would consult an attorney who can tell you what you can expect a court to order.
