My boyfriend received a DUI 10 years ago in California. He hasn't had a license since. He went to all the required classes but missed making the last payment for the classes. The company where he took the classes is gone so he cannot go back to them for help. Now that it's been so long, I believe it's off his driving record. Is this correct? Will he be able to reapply for his driver's license without a problem? Does the charge remain on his records because he didn't submit certification from the classes?

Why doesn't he check, by telephone, with the DMV to see the status of his driving record. We don't know his circumstances, so I don't think you can get a definitive answer here. We don't have any connection with the DMV.

In NY he's suspended until he does whatever he was required to do to get his License back - and PROVES it. He may very well have to take classes again. Depending on whether taking classes and prevent proof was part of his "sentence," there may be an open warrant out for him.

It sounds like he was on a program for first time nonviolent offenders.An you get a certificate after you've completed all classes an payments an the D.As office wouldve sent him a letter of expungement..

To find out for sure though what you do is call the district attorneys officer in the offending county an ask.. An of course he can get a drivers license even if he didn't complete his classes.. In most states a dui is a years driving suspension..

You mistake "off record" for common time records are checked. Most reports don't go back more than 7 years for most background checks, but tickets remain in the system for ever.
In this case, his license will be tagged ( most likely) to require certain things, if it is 10 years or 20 years, so most likely he will need to go and take the course over now.
