Depending on what age you are in... what you are seeking in future... e.g. career... is more important right now other than getting yourself into a relationship... best advice I can give you... is try and test the person whom will enter your life... by testing I mean... argue with him... that will show you if his a violant/ abusive person... however at times a guy / female would do whatever to get a person... which includes acting upon someone there not... these days when it comes to relationship... question is what is a relationship?? Pain or love? And what is love?
