Employer asking person health question is it violating hippa laws
    Hippa Law
Do your employer have the right to ask you What was wrong with you while you was out sick? Because I refuse to answer I was suspended. I did have a Dr.s excuse for the days off.

No this is not a HIPAA violation. And whether they have a right to ask depends on the nature of your work. It's possible the nature of your work is such that certain types of illness could interfere. So what you could have done is have the doctor state that the nature of your illness would not interfere with your work.

Its HIPAA and they can ask you why you were absent. Tell us exactly, word for word what the doctors note said. Most doctors note only confirm treatment which may not always be covered by sick leave. In your situation involving you, the employer and the doctor only the doctor could commit a HIPAA violation

What do you mean by 'suspended?'

Yes, were you suspended till you provide the info, or for a number of days ?

But them asking has nothing to do with the HIPAA laws, since they are not giving out the info, they merely want to be informed about your absents.
