Me and my boyfriend had sex last month two days before my period was due. I then got my period when it was due but only kept it for three days which is very unusual I always kept it regular seven days. My period is due in two days and we yet again had unprotected sex(both times he did not pull out what so ever) I have no symptoms of my period coming. What are the chances of me being pregnant? And which is more accurate to take a hpt or blood work?

Pregnancy will be possible, but sex right before your period is one of the least likely times to become pregnant. Are you trying to become pregnant?

If your period doesn't show when expected, give it about a week to see if it is just late, then try a test if need be.

Some hpts are quite sensitive and can sometimes pick up a pregnancy about the same time a blood test can. However, a blood test will be more accurate.

I'm not sure what to believe honestly. Some people say your fertile days are before your period cause obviously that's when you ovulate, and if the sperm can live in you for 3-5 days then when I start my period wouldn't it be possible for it to fertilized the egg. And yes we are trying..

Yes, you do ovulate before a period, but usually not right before it. The general rule of thumb is that you will ovulate about 12-16 days before a period is due. Your fertile time is considered those several days prior to ovulation and through ovulation.

When you are close to ovulation (releasing an egg), your body starts to prepare for possible fertilization of the egg. One way this happens is hormonal changes that cause changes to the uterine lining and the cervical mucus so that it will allow sperm to survive for a few days. Otherwise they die off fairly quickly. The cervical mucus often becomes noticeably more fluid and clear at this time. The sperm, most of which will live for about 2-3 days, with a few that may stick around for several days, will be waiting for an egg to be released.

When an egg is released, it is only viable for about 24 hours... sometimes not even that long. If sperm are not present, the egg will not be fertilized and a change in hormones again will start the process of preparing for a period to shed the lining of the uterus that had been prepared for the possibility of pregnancy. This process (called the luteal phase of your menstrual cycle) takes about 2 weeks, so if you had sex a couple of days before your period, ovulation most likely had already occurred well before that time. After a period, the changes to prepare for ovulation start all over again.

Some women don't ovulate within the norm however and they may naturally ovulate a bit sooner or later. You can, on occasion, have an off cycle as well where you ovulate outside the norm for you. This is why there is not really a 100% safe time to avoid pregnancy, only times when it may be less likely to become pregnant and times when it is more likely.

When trying to become pregnant, it is not right before a period that you want to focus most of your attention on, it is right before ovulation. Hope that helps... :)
