Problem: I have a GFI outlet that when I press & hold the reset button
A yellow light comes on when I press and HOLD the reset button on my GFI. When I release it, there is no light. I have a voltage tester and I'm not getting any current to the wires. However, I accidentally touched the "white" and grounded myself and got a jolt. Why am I getting shocked and yet can't find any voltage when I test the line??
    No power... arrrgghhhhh!

Check for voltage between black "hot" and ground.

Sounds like the polarity is reveresed. The white is hot.

If that is the case the GFI will not work. They are designed to only work if wired properly.

Get a decent tester and see if the white is hot and black is neutral. If so then you have to find this problem and fix it.
