I have a dell latitude c640 running xp sp3. For some reason I can't connect to my d-link wireless router. It shows up in the avialable wireless networks but when I try to connect it opens a box and says "waiting for newtwork" with a small animaation but never connects. I don't have any security features or mac filtering set up and have no idea what it could be. My other laptop connects just fine though.

A Few things could cause this. Try the following and respond.

1. Can you connect with an ethernet cable?

2. Remove existing wireless profiles, try again!
A) When you're at the Choose Wireless Network screen
B) Change Order of Preferred networks
C) Remove all networks in your preferred networks list.

3. Do you have a DHCP scope setup on the router, if your scope is full your laptop will sit there attempting to connect but nothing will happen because an IP wasn't given.

4. Go to Device Manager and see if anything lists a ? or !

5. Do you have a static IP set on your adapter?
A) Control Panel
B) Network Connections
C) Right-Click on Wireless Adapter, Hit Properties
D) Click TCP/IP, Click Properties
E) Make sure Obtain IP Automatically and Obtain DNS Automatically are both checked.

Try these and let me know!

1 I can connect with Ethernet, that's how I'm on the web now.
2 I've already tried removing the existing wireless networks several times and there was no difference.
3 I'm fairly certain DHCP is set up correctly because I can connect to my neighbor's wifi just fine. (it's really slow)
4 Nothing shows up in the device manager.
5 IP addresses and DNS are both configured to be retrieved automatic.
