This relative carried out criminal damage on our house around 2 years ago which we called the police about but he and others still won't leave us be. The relative constantly knocks on our door and we are afraid to confront him and are now considering carrying out an injunction or going to the police.

So, WHY are you waiting to get a restraining order. Go get it. This is EXACTLY why they have them.

Relative or not... nobody get a free pass for harassment.

I would go to the police and get it on record, they will know what to do. Also be mindful that a restraint order is just a piece of paper. If these people are a physical threat I would get protection... mace and a big dog if possible. No weapons because they can be used against you. Depending on where you live change the locks and get good ones. Tell this person through the door that they are not welcome in your home. Stand up for yourself but do it right and protect yourself too.

Get a BIG gun and learn how to use it. Send a copy of the receipt to the relative. Then get a concealed carry permit, and send a copy to the relative.

He'll leave you alone.
