Roommate says I can't afford to live here so I'm leaving in a month. Both tennants have signed lease. Remaining tenant in college can only afford 1/2 rent. Is person leaving responsible for other 1/2 of rent till lease runs out? Tenant that's leaving, can live with parents 20 minutes away.Other tennant's parents live 3 1/2 hours away. Tennent leaving can afford to go on a trip to disney but not rent?

As long as they signed the lease they are responsible for the rent until a new roommate can be found. However, it depends on how the lease is written as to whether the remaining tenant is responsible for the full rent.

If each room mate has their own lease, or th lease merely holds each liable for their share, but if it just sets a total price for all,

If there is a clause in the lease saying, they are liable jointly and severally liable then both will be held be responsible; i.e. one cannot leave in the middle until the lease expires; he has to bear the repercussions; if no clause prevails then he need not be held responsible.
