Most of these type of problems are caused by the switch on the motor that turns the drum. It is a safety switch as well as a centrifugal switch design that acts to make sure the motor is turning before allowing the heat to flow. When these switches go bad the dryer will act as if it is trying to start but it will never get into the run mode. I am sure you have already checked the belt that turns the drum but if not check that item also and replace while you have it apart to replace the motor end switch.
